Question about aquarium filtration?
I got some great replies about what to do with my fish tank, and I have some questions about those replies I was told to use peat filtration. I would like to know how you do that? Isn't peat messy? I was told by Petsmart that I could use peat or driftwood. I chose driftwood because I figured it wasn't as messy as peat. Also, those of you who use baking soda...exactly how much is a " small" dose? I have a 36 gallon tank. And one last question, are there any fish that pair well with angels? Any little schooling fish that can handle the Ph difference that the angels like?
Saltwater aquarium filtration?
I've had a 50 gallon saltwater tank for over a year now. Bottom line is I'm not happy with the filtration. I currently have a wet dry trickle filter with a phospure pad as the filter media. I will sometimes put some carbon in a media bag within the sump as well. I have huge algae, and my water is rarely clear. My live rock is starting to suffer due to the fact that I have to cut so much light time because of the algae outbreaks. I am willing and very interested to hear what you guys recommend for the the intermediate advanced aquarium filter set up. I think a UV filter will be necessary and also a r o water system, but I have no idea how those works do they hook up to the filter system somehow or just to a water source in the house? Again, any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
What is aquarium filtration capacity ?

Low Tech planted aquarium filtration?
I have a 60 gallon aquarium with 2 filters on it. As of right now i have some hornwort and another plant i dont know the name of. From what i understood before it is good to have your water filtered 10 times through per hour so like 600gph for my tank this is the reason when i upgraded from my 10 gallon tank i put that 100 gph filter on the 60 gallon tank and also bought a whisper 60 for the main filter that does 330gph. Im thinking of adding some more plants and im reading that some of the heavily planted tanks with no filtration other than the plants and water changes. I want to know what to do with my tank should i take off some of the filtration or leave it how it is? My tank is fully stocked bassed on the surface area stocking method. Should leave it alone and put more plants, put more plants and take off the whisper 60, or should i put more plants and only have the filter from the 10 gallon tank?my lighting is around 2 watts per gallon i have 2 lamps over the tank each lamp has a 14 watt cfl daylight bulb that puts out what a 60 watt regular bulb would
50 gallon aquarium filtration?
I just got a 50 gallon aquarium for free and I'm not sure what to use for filtration. It will be housing 4 Figure eight puffer fish. Thanks I've had my puffers together for almost 2 years and they don't even nip at each other.
25 gallon Saltwater aquarium filtration?
I have a 104 fluval canister filter, 15 lb of live rock, and 130 watts of light from power compacts. I have been doing regular water changes instead of adding a protein skimmer. Does the canister provide enough oxygen for the fish in the tank or do I need to add a powerhead. Any recomendations for a super quiet skimmer for this size tank. THANKS.

Aquarium filtration question?
I have an estabilished 37gallon freshwater tropical aquarium running two Elite power filters made for 20 gallon tanks each with a total of three extension tubes on them they don't reach the bottom of the tank. There is a lot of debris on the bottom that I vacuum up every week. Would putting more extension tubes on them hurt the motors of these two filters? Is there an internal filter that might cause better water circulation at the bottom of the tank to capture some of this debris on a regular basis? I've tried different kinds of HOB filters before and the Elite was the quietest of them all so don't really want to change...
Aquarium filtration?
I have just set up a 55 gallon aquarium that I pickedup at a garage sale. There are 3 chambers in the filtration system attached to the back of the aquarium. The water does not flow through the middle chamber where the filters are. How should it be set up so the water will filter?
Aquarium filtration recommendation?
the filters i have now were given to me w the aquariums and i wanna upgrade. i don't know much about them so i'm hoping someone can assist. I need 2 actually 1 for a 46 gallon freshwater and 1 for a 25 gallon also freshwater. if it matters, the 46 gallon is for fancy goldfish and the 25 is gourami. not looking to spend a fortune especially in the filters replacements but i want good quality. if u happen 2 know any place that has cheaper bow front aquariums also i would appreciate it. thanks in advance.
Making my aquariums filtration more effective?
I have a 55 gallon fish tank with 1 small oscar and 2 small pacus yeah i know how big the pacus get thats why i have a 400g tank anyways i have the standard filter that you get with any fishtank and i made my own filter. It has a fountain pump that pumps water out of the tank into a 5 gallon tank that has bio balls, gravel and filter media. it pumps about 70g hr. what can i do to make either more effective? maybe putting a sponge over the intake of the regular mechanical filter? or gettin a bigger pump for the diy filter? also i have a small undergravel filter for about 1 3 of my tank.
