Fish salt water aquarium i found out that you can make your own live rock is it safe?
i want to start my own lil salt water aquarium i just found out like the other day that you can make your own live rock but i wanna know is it safe and is it only for reef tanks because every video i go to say reefit wont make the whole house smell will it ???? and how do you set up the sump tank ive also seen a few vedios about this but dont fully understand it and i dont want to go out and get the fish and stuff with out knowin what to do and end up killing the fish
I put all purpose sand in my salt water aquarium but now it looks all brown like the ocean how do I clear itup?
I wanted to get a lobster and a crab and have them as pets at the bottom of my tank so I got regular sand as a bedding for them to emulate the ocean floor, oh great now my tank is brown like the ocean, what do I do to clear it up so I can see the fish I get later in the future? The sand caused the whole tank to turn brown, just like the ocean is, but I want to be able to see my fish crab and lobster? And dont worry about them killing each other in the tank when they die I'll just eat them
Question about my salt water aquarium?
I have a sea urchin in my aquarium. He started to lose some spikes but still has some intact. I picked him up and he was hard as a rock. Is he dead? How can you tell? I don't want him to pollute my tank but I don't want to get rid of him if hes still alive Thanks
Going to be working with salt water aquariums?
Hey folks. I've been working with freshwater aquariums for about a year now and I feel pretty confident about my knowledge of them and their inhabitants. The problem is I just got a new job where I'm going to be working largely with marine tanks so I'm going to have to know everything I can about them and I'm going to be helping people with them all day. Any advice, tips, or suggestions of things for me to read up on? Thanks
How hard would it be to keep a 10/20 gallon salt water aquarium?
Okay I would love to have a 10 or 20 gallon salt water aquarium all I really want would be is a clown fish or 2 and maybe a hermit crab and some shrimp. I've had a freshwater aquarium for about 2 years and i think i'm ready for a salt water. My dad had a salt water aquarium and it was beautiful so if i really needed immediate help i would ask him. So the things are how hard is it, how much would it cost, what would i need, and do you think i should do it?and also i might be considering a Hagen Fluval Edge Aquarium and ive heard you can do a salt water set up on one of them.
Do regular power filters decrease salinity in salt water aquarium?
I have a 46 gallon aquarium, for the past week I've been slowly converting it into saltwater, but it seems that every time I check the salinity it stays at 1.004...so far Ive added about three cups of salt total to the aquarium and the salinitly is still at 1.004, which seems a bit low for tha amount of oceanic salt I've added...Im trying to get it to brackish about 1.014 ...Im wondering if maybe my filter is catching the salt and keeping it from the aquarium. I have just a regular filter, not a biowheel, just an electric one that hangs from the back of the aquarium. maybe the amount of salt Ive added really isnt enough to raise the salinity in a 46 gallon tank but thought Id ask if maybe the filter could have something to do with it.THanksanswer to question I have a 40 50 gallon power filter...dont have enough money for a canister or slump at the moment. I bought green spotted puffers and the store I bought them from had them in fresh water, they need brackish to marine...i am mixing the salt water before putting it in the tank, but i am having to do the transfer slowly as to not shock the fish. I added another cup of salt today...salitnity went up by .002, it is now reading inbetween 1.004 and 1.008. Thank you for all your answers.
What is this critter in my salt water aquarium?
I can't remember the name of the critter in the pic circled in red. I believe it may be a type of sea cucumber but, I can't find anything online that resembles it. My questions are, what is it and how do you know if its dead? It has been in my aquarium for probably 3 months and never moves. What would i need to start a salt water aquarium with a clown fish?
Hello there. I have had fresh water fish for over 4 years now. I have gradually learned some things and am aware of water maintenance. I do weekly water changes and fish are very happy. I have been thinking about starting a salt water aquarium with just one clown fish. I have a spare 50 gallon tank with a fluval 305 filter. What would be my next step, any info would be great. I just recently set up a salt water aquarium, I have a 10,000 bulb and one actinic bulb, I plan to keep corals so need a high output light fixture, I would still like to use my old one and not spend an arm and a leg....please help.
