Definitely do a outside landscape. They are beautiful. You should do something interesting with the sky maybe a streak of a wet, dark color on the top then clean your brush and make it wet take it and make it go from light to dark. Maybe you can use dry brush as the ground. Good luck! = )

Can you paint what you see outside your window? Or open your closet door and paint that. have you tried sprinkling a wet wash with salt? the salt absorbs the color and leaves a little spot, it is neat effect.

You can do blending--fade one color into another. You can do overpainting: wait until a light color is dry, paint something partially over it. Dry brush: wipe your brush until it's nearly dry of paint, make textured area or line Spatter technique: either shake your brush over an area and make little splatters, or dust at little salt into wet paint. Masking: use rubber cement or whatever you learned to use, and masque out a spot that will remain white. Paint over, let dry, rub off the rubber cement. Scratch into: while an area is still wet, use the other end of the brush and draw some lines into the paint. I don't know what the heck he/ she taught you, but hope this helps!
