How to submit an illustration portfolio?
I am trying to submit my portfolio to various places, but have noticed that some of the big publishers state that they do not accept art submissions. Obviously they are viewing artists' work somehow, and are commissioning covers, as is evident from simply going to a book store. What am I missing? If I just send some printed samples anyway, is it just a waste of postage, or is there a chance they could be viewed?

How to create a successful sketchbook with good research for an illustration course?
I'm currently doing an illustration with animation course. My outcomes for projects have been successful, however, my sketchbooks are never very good which lets my marks down. I'm not that good when it comes to the research side of things as I feel I get my final ideas too quickly and I know if I did the research properly I could get better marks but the way I research isn't very good. The main source I go for is google images which isn't the best source... In the last year of my course sketchbook content is worth 50 % which I am rather worried about... If anyone can give me steps of how to do proper research that would be great.Here is an example of a project You have to create 16 images relating to the word 'space'. The 16 images created are not supposed to be obvious images of outerspace, astronaughts, planets etc.The images could be about claustrophobia, mimes, negative space or even loneliness could be shown by a small figure sitting alone in the corner of a page etc.If you had to do the research how would you go about it Where would you do your research? If you had to research using the internet for different ideas for 'space' what kind of searches would you do? Are there particular topics you would look up? What kind of primary sources would you try and find to draw references?etc...Detailed help will be much appreciated Thanks.

Illustration art sells. What to do?
I did some fanart painting, and wish to sell it online, of course I will inform that I don't own the char. Is this fine? What should I do to protect my artwork too? I also would like to put the original logo of the ANime Manga will i be sued if I do that cause normally most of others fanart , ppl don't use original logo. I'm confuseYou're right Moz but I've seen plenty of fan art being sold on Anime fes and such. What so different? I'm guessing maybe they send a mail to the original artist? 8
Illustration or Advertisement?
I'm a talented artist and I'm planning on going to Art Center for college. The problem is, I don't know what I want to major in. I love both illustration and Advertising, but the problem is my instructor told me that illustrators don't get paid that well. How much do Advertisors earn? Are there any other majors that are recommended? Thanks
