With the advent of wideband internet connections like cable, DSL, Cellular Data, WiFi, and even fiber optic cable to the home (FTTH), it's hard to turn down an internet based business run from home. It is just so convenient to be able to jump on the computer anytime you want to, whether your home or on the road with your laptop. I believe we're seeing the start of a great revolution in the way society works and plays, with your private and professional life being woven together efficiently by being able to communicate with cell phones and computers anytime and almost any place (eg, the bride accessing her blackberry email while saying "I do ")! This is the concept of a mobile "virtual " worker and telecommuting as opposed to the typical job of the 20th century where you worked 8 hours at the company and at the end of the day went home to pursue only your private life. Being a student, you probably already have the tools to be a virtual worker and/ or start your own internet based business. However, you may be looking for something where you get more physical exercise rather than more sitting at a desk or computer as when you study. In that case, a part time job where you have to walk a lot would be nice, and you could still be carrying your computerized cell phone that does both communications and keyboard functions. An example would be working in some very large complex where the job required you to move all around the building and grounds with your mobile data terminal. If you wanted to start an internet based business at home, a good option is to choose something that is almost like a hobby to you already which you enjoy and spend some time on now. Many full fledged businesses have originally started that way (witness the Yahoo founders!) and you could turn it into a life long profession as it generated more and more income. Depending on what your studying in school, what your interests are and how much cash you need to start generating right away, you can decide what's best to do at this point in your life. Of course you've got those family obligations, but maybe your husband and you can do something together, where he supplies the business knowledge and connections and you supply the communication and computer skills. Good luck, and on your next question, fill in some details mentioned above, and we can actually start suggesting practical business ideas! |
