If you make a website, what is the difference betwenn hosting domian and publishing it though a webhosting website? Will you get more traffic if you have a domain? Will it still say .com at the end if you publish it through webhosting?

Alright. So,I have been trying to work on a game for the past several months, and have a website runelegacy.com for the forums. So I have a monthly server fee going, yearly vbulletin, 50$ domain, and yearly webhosting which is starting to end . I had an online friend do ALL the web related stuff. I had him go ahead and create an account for the webhosting 1euro hosting.eu paid the 300$, and he did whatever he did to set up the site on the webhosting which I have no clue about . Recently he has dissipated, and the password I knew of for the webhosting no longer works, which means I cannot access my cpanel though I can still manage runelegacy.com by the vb panel. My webhoster cannot send me the pass because the account name is not under me, but my friend, even though I paid for it with my email.So since my friend seems to have run off with my webhosting or something, the only option for me is to switch to another webhost, and forget about him since he is always doing shady things. But I have no idea how to hook my site up to my new webhosting, or what I need. If someone could please tell me what I need to complete this process, and how to do it that would be great.Thanks.
